The 2020 Supra is Coming. Should American Muscle Be Afraid?

Does this quite inflammatory question not sit with you right? Or maybe you’re quick to shrug off even the mere thought that a lowly Supra could even pose a threat. Seems like a logical reaction. Usually.

The Supra was announced to create an “earth-shattering” 335 HP and 365 lb-ft of torque with its turbo V6. Psh. Whatever–a Ford turbo 4-cylinder makes that kind of power, right? Yes, that’s absolutely true. But, here’s the issue: the Supra doesn’t make 335 HP.  Car and Driver tested the Supra on a dyno and got completely incongruous results.

After being suspicious of the Supra’s acceleration time of 3.8 seconds from 0-60, Car and Driver did a dyno test to do a little verification of sorts. Well, it turns out the Supra with it’s new little 3-liter twin turbo makes 339 HP at the rear wheels, and 427 lb-ft of torque. Yikes.

That being said, should muscle car enthusiasts be afraid? Will muscle car supremacy be truly challenged? Or will Godzilla once again go down under a fiery explosion of V8 thunder? Share your thoughts!
